Treatment for Heat-related Illness
1) move victim into shade; may need to place in vehicle & turn on AC
2) IF ALERT AND NOT VOMITING, give cool liquids slowly; water and/or electrolyte drink diluted half with water. Stop if vomiting.
3) place cool, wet cloths on victim’s head & body. Fan vigorously (evaporation = heat removal)
4) if available, place ice packs on neck, armpits & groin.
5) if victim not alert enough to swallow or if vomiting, call for medical evacuation
6) if victim has symptoms of muscle cramps, confusion, rapid pulse that doesn’t resolve after reasonable time—call 911.
